About the WebP to PNG Converter

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that produces smaller file sizes than JPG and PNG — but not every app, platform, or tool accepts it. Email clients, design software, older browsers, and many upload forms require PNG or JPG instead.

When you save an image from Chrome, a website, or any Google product, it frequently downloads as .webp. If you try to open or upload it elsewhere and the platform doesn't support WebP, converting to PNG is the fix.

PNG is a lossless format — it stores every pixel without degrading quality. Converting WebP to PNG also preserves any transparency in the original file, which JPG cannot do. The conversion runs using the HTML5 Canvas API directly in your browser — your image is never sent to a server.

Note: if your WebP is lossy (most images downloaded from websites are), the PNG output is a lossless copy of the current state — it can't recover quality that was already lost in the original WebP.

Need to go the other direction? WebP to JPG gives maximum compatibility. PNG to JPG converts any PNG to JPEG. Compress Image reduces file size without converting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert WebP to PNG?

PNG has near-universal compatibility and is the standard for lossless images. If you need to edit the image in software that doesn't support WebP, or share it somewhere that requires PNG, converting is the right call.

Will converting WebP to PNG increase file size?

Yes — PNG is lossless and typically larger than WebP. The file size increase depends on the image content, but expect 20-50% larger files.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes. WebP supports transparency and so does PNG, so any transparent areas convert perfectly.

Can I convert a lossless WebP to PNG without any quality change?

Yes. If the WebP was lossless, converting to PNG is a lossless operation. If the WebP was lossy, the PNG captures the lossy WebP pixels exactly — it won't re-introduce quality loss, but it can't recover what the WebP already discarded.
