About the PNG to JPG Converter

Converting PNG to JPG significantly reduces file size — especially for photographs — because JPG uses lossy compression that removes data the eye struggles to notice. A PNG photo might be 3–5MB while the same image as a high-quality JPG is 300–500KB.

The quality slider lets you control the trade-off. At 92% (the default) the image is visually indistinguishable from the original. Lower settings produce smaller files with increasingly visible compression. A setting of 80–90% is the sweet spot for web images.

Note that transparent areas in your PNG will be filled with white in the JPG output, since JPG does not support transparency. If your image has a transparent background, consider whether JPG is the right format.

When PNG is the better choice: images with transparent backgrounds (logos, icons, UI elements), images with text or sharp edges where JPEG compression creates visible artefacts, or source files you plan to edit and export multiple times. When JPG wins: photographs for web or social media, images where file size matters more than lossless quality, and any image that will only be viewed and never re-edited.
