About the Volume Converter
Volume conversions are essential in cooking, science and engineering. The metric system uses millilitres and litres while US recipes use cups, tablespoons and teaspoons. UK and US gallons are different sizes which adds further complexity. This converter handles all common volume units.

Key relationships to know: 1 litre = 1000 millilitres, 1 US gallon = 3.785 litres, 1 UK gallon = 4.546 litres. In cooking, 1 US cup = 236.6 ml, 1 tablespoon = 14.8 ml, 1 teaspoon = 4.9 ml. The US and UK cup are slightly different sizes — something that catches people out when adapting American recipes. A US pint is 473 ml while a UK pint is 568 ml.
