PDF Password Remover
Remove a password from a PDF you own. The decryption runs in your browser — your file never leaves your device.
How it works
A password-protected PDF is encrypted. The content — text, images, everything — is mathematically scrambled using a key derived from the password. Opening the PDF requires the correct password to decrypt the content in real time.
A PDF password remover takes a different approach: it decrypts the entire file using the password you provide and writes out a new PDF with the encryption removed. The result is a standard, unprotected PDF that any reader can open without a password.
What makes a PDF password remover safe
The main risk with online PDF password removers is privacy. Many services upload your document to their servers before processing it. Once uploaded, you lose control over who can access it and how long it's stored.
The Unlock PDF tool on this site uses a different model: the decryption runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The PDF bytes are passed to the pdf-lib library on your device, decrypted in memory, and saved. No data is transmitted to any server. You can verify this in your browser's network tab — there will be no outbound requests during the unlocking process.
What it cannot do
This tool requires the correct password. It cannot crack or guess a password you don't know. Modern PDF encryption (AES-256) is computationally infeasible to break without the password — even specialized hardware would take longer than the age of the universe to try every possible combination for a strong password.
Removing edit restrictions vs open-password
PDFs have two types of protection: an open password (required to view the file at all) and owner restrictions (limiting printing, copying, or editing for people who can already view it). This tool removes open password protection. It can also remove owner restrictions on PDFs that don't have a separate open password.

What is a PDF password remover?
A PDF password remover is a tool that decrypts a password-protected PDF and saves it as a new file without the password. You provide the tool with the current password, it decrypts the content, and saves an unencrypted copy. It does not crack or guess passwords — it requires you to already know the correct password.
Is a PDF password remover safe to use?
It depends on the tool. Many online PDF password removers upload your file to a server, where it could be stored or accessed. The Unlock PDF tool on QuickToolsHub runs entirely in your browser — your PDF is never uploaded anywhere. The decryption happens locally on your device, so your document stays private.
Do I need to install software to remove a PDF password?
No. Browser-based tools work without any install. Go to quicktoolshub.org/unlock-pdf in any modern browser, upload the PDF, enter the password, and download the unlocked version. If you prefer a desktop app, LibreOffice and Adobe Acrobat can both remove PDF passwords after you enter the correct one.
Can PDF password removers crack passwords?
Legitimate PDF password removal tools require you to know the correct password — they decrypt using the password you provide. 'PDF password crackers' or 'PDF password recovery' tools attempt to guess the password through brute force, but they only work on short or weak passwords, and the process can take days even on fast hardware. Modern PDF encryption with a strong password cannot be practically cracked.
Will removing the password change anything else in my PDF?
No. Removing the password only strips the encryption layer. The text, images, formatting, fonts, and all content remain exactly as they were in the original. The file may be slightly smaller without the encryption metadata, but the content is identical.
What if the PDF has edit restrictions but no open password?
Some PDFs allow viewing without a password but restrict editing, printing, or copying (these are owner password restrictions). The Unlock PDF tool can remove these edit restrictions as well — just leave the password field blank. If the restrictions require an owner password you don't have, the tool won't be able to remove them.
