About the Alphabetical Sorter

Putting a list in alphabetical order is one of those tasks that seems simple but gets tedious fast — especially with long lists of names, words, items or data. This tool handles any list instantly, with four sort modes and three cleanup options.

A → Z sorts in standard ascending alphabetical order. Z → A reverses this. Reverse flips the current order of your list without resorting alphabetically — useful if you have a numbered list you want to read bottom-up. Shuffle randomises the order.

Case sensitive mode sorts uppercase letters before lowercase (A, B, C before a, b, c). With case sensitivity off, “Apple” and “apple” are treated as equal. Remove duplicates keeps only the first occurrence of each item. Remove blank lines strips empty lines before sorting.

Common uses: sorting name lists, vocabulary words, country lists, product names, bibliography entries, tag lists, and any data that needs alphabetical ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the sort treat uppercase and lowercase as the same?

By default case-insensitive — 'apple' and 'Apple' sort together.

Can I sort a numbered list?

Yes — it orders by the full line including the number.

Can I sort by the last word?

Not directly. For last-name sorting, put names in 'Surname, First' format.

Does it work with non-English languages?

Yes for Latin-script languages. Accented characters follow Unicode code point order.
